The Harold C. Pierce Jr. Scholarship
The following procedure shall govern the Harold C. Pierce, Jr. Scholarship Program:
- The following persons are eligible: (a) EANGWV Members (b) Unmarried dependent children of EANGWV Members (c) Spouses of EANGWV Members (d) Unmarried spouses and unmarried dependent children of deceased EANGWV Members who were in good standing at the time of their death.
- Honorary and Associate Membership does not qualify any of the persons listed above to apply for scholarship.
- Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 each. The number of Scholarships to be awarded shall be determined each year by the Executive Council, the cost of which shall be a line item in the annual budget. Reasonable effort shall be made to award a minimum of one Harold C. Pierce Jr. Scholarship each year, however this requirement may be waived by two-thirds vote of the Executive Council in cases of serious financial constraint of the Enlisted Association.
- Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students at an accredited college, university, trade or business school.
- Graduate students are not eligible for the scholarship.
- Awards will be distributed in two checks (50% in each check) sent directly to the recipient on a quarterly or semester basis. To receive the award, verification of enrollment and good standing at his/her institution is required for each payment.
- There shall be no consideration whatsoever given due to friendship, rank or grade of applicant, applicant’s parents, or applicant’s spouse (neither shall applicant’s geographical place of residence be considered). Awards will be made on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and need. All applications will include: (a) A transcript of High School Credits or a transcript of College for applicants already in institutions of higher learning. (b) A letter from the applicant with specific reason(s) as to why they should be selected as a recipient of the scholarship. (c) Three letters of recommendation verifying the application and giving moral and personal traits (these should be from community leaders, ministers, elected officials, etc). (d) One letter of academic reference (should be from the applicant’s Principal, Counselor, Dean or Professor).
- Former recipients are not eligible to reapply. Persons who have previously applied for this scholarship and were not selected may reapply.
- Means may be made available to complete the application process online.
- The application deadline will be set by the Scholarship Committee in order to facilitate the selection process.
