EANGUS Advocates for Fairness During the Government Shutdown

by | Oct 24, 2025 | Legislative

As the federal government shutdown continues, the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) is working tirelessly to ensure that our Nation’s enlisted men and women — especially those serving in the National Guard — are not left behind.

In a letter to Congress, EANGUS called for immediate action to amend the Shutdown Fairness Act (S.3012) to include Title 32 Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) and Dual-Status Technicians (DSTs). These individuals play a vital role in maintaining the readiness and operational effectiveness of our armed forces, yet many are being asked to serve without pay or have been furloughed due to the shutdown.

EANGUS emphasized that readiness and resilience depend on the well-being of those who serve. Without pay continuity, critical maintenance, training, and support functions within the National Guard risk disruption — directly impacting our national security and domestic response capabilities.

“No one who wears the uniform should ever have to worry about how they’ll pay their bills while serving their country,” said CMSgt Josh J. Baker, President of EANGUS. “Our Guard members stand ready to respond to fires, floods, and conflicts around the world — and they deserve the same stability and respect as their active-duty counterparts. EANGUS will continue to fight to ensure they are not forgotten.”

This call to action reaffirms EANGUS’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of enlisted personnel and their families. The association continues to advocate for parity, fairness, and recognition for all who serve — in every duty status.

EANGUS urges lawmakers to take swift, bipartisan action to pass the Shutdown Fairness Act with the proposed amendment to protect all National Guard members.
